Am I a guru? If so, talk em down a little. Then make a deal.
|
Looks good. Up to the test drive and personal inspection, I surmise?
(im no guru) |
Talk em' down. Find another one and compare, see which dealer would go down the lowest in price in other words haggle.
In advance, welcome to the fold. |
Thats a nice car, but you can probably do better on the price. I saw that exact car in perfect condition for sale for 500 less, and it had 20000 less miles.
|
Slightly higher mileage then desireable, and it costs a little more then you may think. If you can get below 9, that's a good start.

ALWAYS HAGGLE!!!!!..............period
Saying things like, uhmm I'm not sure, and well there's this other one I was looking at, or that's a little out of my bundget, I'm going to look at the other one, whatever BS you can come up with to delay and still act interested, but disappointed at the numbers, ask them to try again when they go back and forth to get the price/2nd price, 3rd, 4th, 5th...8th, Why not, your saving money!!!! I encourage this to everyone who buys cars at dealers. My deal for my 01 SSEi was over 2 days and 6 hours the second day, well worth it, got almost 3500 under the already advertised reduced price  Of course I had to take it out to lunch to think about it too. Afterwards the Sales manager congradulated me on being a VERY good haggler. I told me that people that pay the first or second price they give you are SUCKERS, he kinda smilled and than looked around to see who heard me. By the way, 2 of my buddies sold cars for a while, they say most regular dealerships will go down no more than 10-15%, not all will want to sell it that low but also forgot to add, bought my car on the 2nd to last day of the month. |
Kelly Blue Book puts the price at 9300....
http://kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.ur?kb...eville&6;PO;J4 Id Print that out and take it with you.... Always good to save 1600 bucks |

I think that *I* want that car! It looks exactly like my recently departed SLE. As was already stated, tell your friend to haggle haggle haggle. If some other sucker comes along and will pay the dealer's "window price", then it wasn't meant to be. |
Chrome Torque Stars :) ..get around 9500 max i'd say. It's the old body style too.. way high price. Now its the old engine due to the N*.
|
Guess what? I'm not the only Bonne driver at the office no more! I'll leave the details to him if he wants.....

Dude, you did sweet on the price. I looked at it and my gut reaction was "price too high." But if you got them down to 9K, I think you did good.
Just to tell a story, I found by accident that a good way to get a lower price is to test drive the car, then decide that it was most definitely *not* the right car for you. Every car I've driven that I didn't like for some reason or another, the dealers almost beg me to buy it and start dropping the price by thousands. `Course, when that happened to me, I *really* didn't want the car, so it didn't really matter that they were dropping the price. But I swear, the next car-of-my-dreams that I buy, I'm gonna test drive it, get out of the car, shake the salesman's hand, and tell him "Thanks for your time, but I really don't like this car. I didn't like the feel of the way it drove, I think I'd rather keep on shopping and find something else." THEN I'll buy it when he dumps the price! When I got my 97SE (with lots of the SLE upgrades), I test drove three different trim models of Bonneville. I drove a low-end SE with 15" steel wheels and hubcaps, then I drove my 97SE with lots of SLE upgrades, then I drove an SSEI, just to feel what I'd be missing if I didn't get the supercharger, and was privately most impressed with the middle-line SE with lots of SLE upgrades. I actually thanked them and left. The next morning they had the low end car advertised in the paper on sale about $2000 less than they had it marked, so I simply walked in and said I wanted the same sale on the middle Bonnie. They said no and offered it to me for $1500 less instead, so I left. On my way out the door they changed their mind and gave me my $2000 off price. Woo Hoo! I've been very happy with my SE. I know I don't have the supercharger and all, but I'm 37 now, and my SE has well more than enough power than I need. I like my 16" 5-spoke star alloy facotry wheels, I like my cloth seats even better than leather (because it gets blazing hot in California) and I even like that I have the granny shifter rather than the console. I have more space up front. My upgrades have been a replacement of the entire factory sound system, Dunlop tires, a leather steering wheel cover, a K&N drop-in replacement air filter, new floor mats, and frankly, that's it! I like it just the way it is! (and we got my wife a loaded 2001 Grand Prix GT.) |
