New/old car New Alternator
As many of you know, I purchased a 90 Electra Park Ave, that is in mint condition. Last Saturday, I was out and about, everything worked fine, then stopped off at the store. Got back in and it would crank half a crank and nothing. All the lights came on but it wouldn't crank but a half crank. had a friend come down and use a battery box to give me a jump. The box also had a voltage meter on it and he said the Alternator was only charging at 11.3 volts, it should be charging at 14. Drove it to his shop and we put the battery on the charger for about an hour. Got the car home safely too.
After purchasing a new BOSCH alternator (to the tune of $123.00) I was really surprised at how easy changing out the alternators are on these 3800 engines! 30 minutes from loosening the first bolt to tightening the last. I'm loving this car more and more!

Yep! Very easy! The alternator change in my car took 20 minutes, and that included me putzing around, and running inside for tools too. This is also the same car that is easier to change the back spark plugs, than the front, only because the fronts I had to fish around to find the threads up front.
