Wife and I just went through this with the 'Hawk when brainstorming on vanity plates. Here'* a couple we had, but never used:

Not sure about Ohio, but the state of Michigan has a website that allows you to enter in vanity plate names to see if their still available. It helps curb the disappointment that you'd otherwise learn of at the Secretary of State'* office when you find the name is already taken.
