PHILIPS- CrystalVision ULTRA
Just got second set of Sylvania Silverstar Ultras.
Giving them one more try. Both blew out just over a year. Not too happy at $49 a pair.
I love their explanation on the packaging for 40% better (fine print is ... than "replacing worn standard bulbs").
Seem better, i just hope for some longevity this time. I got the goop for the sockets since i do think my headlight unit leaks some.
gotta love the highbeams tho.

They will blow out again. Sorry to say that. But the 2000+ have the headlights mounted different. They seem to have more vibration then years before 2000. These headlights do not handle vibration very well and burn out between 6 and 12 months.
i've had my SS'* in the highs and lows for a little over a year and a half just replaced the lows with SSU'* last week.
now the fogs on the other hand those suck i can't get the SS'* to last more that 2 months

On the old 98, ran Silverstar Ultras for 2 years with no issue. Still going strong in the new owners car. Seeing what you said about the 2000+ Dan, I don't think I will try them there.
Good info!

We'll see on the longevity. I dont have real high hopes but, would like to get some time on them.
Can't do much on the vibration with the GXP suspension being as tight as it is either.
Next topic is the driving lights... can they only be gotten from a dealer?
The user manual doesn't list bulb number (and thanx to whomever gave the picture post on how to get to the lights).
Going in from the grille looked possible but, definitely NOT fun.

HID conversion is the only way to go IMO
For less than you spend on a set of halogen bulbs that dont last or put out any more light, you can spend $35 and go for YEARS without replacing a bulb.. I am going on about 2 1/2 years on the HID'* I have with no problems at all.. no burnt out bulbs and WAY, WAY better light output than any halogen bulb.
I also recently tinted my headlights and fog lights to match my tail lights and my HID'* still give just as much light as my stock bulbs did on NON tinted headlights lol. That right there shows you how extreme of a difference there is.
Stick with 6000k or under and it will be nice and white and doesn't hurt other drivers eyes like the blue 8000k and higher lights.
Just my $.02
