Thanks for the input, guys. I knew that odd taste in my mouth was more than a pushy sales rep.

If you make it to spring (save money) and pick up a used one (Linders has 6 month unlimited mileage warranty), I'll give you a hand with it. You'll be under the car turning wrenches this time.. I won't let you come in nice clothes and keep you from getting them dirty.

You do transmissions now? Good to hear!

Local junkyards offer working transmissions starting at $200, but that Linders warrantied one sounds like a deal. I have no problem getting dirty; you just tend to have a crank sensor or radiator swapped out by the time I get my gloves on.

I read an article in Car & Driver a few months back dealing with these companies. They are not what they are claiming to be. Buyer beware definitely here.

Colin.. I've swapped many transmissions and even built a couple. Trans swapping is easy, just takes a little time and effort.

I'm more than willing to help out and turn it into a meet for those that want the experience. I'll walk around checking what you guys are breaking and point you in the right direction so that it goes smooth.

I'll even bring a thirty-pack or two. Depends on how much we need to get the job done.

Bill, can you point me toward these Linders transmissions? Google didn't turn up much.

Years ago I bought a '96 Ford Explorer, I also bought this extended warranty separtly. Well I needed lower bal-joints and had them replaced and the dealer sent in the paperwork for the repairs. They didn't pay a cent because I hadn't paid in enough months worth of premiums to qualitfy. I dropped them like a rock!
