According to my OM, we SC'd can use 87-90 but at the loss of power. PMD made a safety feature that will protect the engine. I, however WILL NEVER run anything less then the 91. Around here I use 92-94, typically 93 because I have the SC and I don't trust the OM. I agree with Jr'* statement entirely

I agree, too. My problem is that it can be difficult to find anything higher than 91 around here. I go higher if I have the choice.

Maybe I am in the dark about which fuel to use, however since I have had my beloved, I have used 87 Oct. That'* what it said in the book, so that'* what I use. Also, I have a relative that used to work for Exxon and he said that the only difference in the fuels is how much detergent is in them (which apparently raises octane levels) or something. Do you think that I would see even better performance if I went up to an 89 or even gasp, a 90 something or other? I don't know if I would really notice a difference. Would I?

But who is the best gas to use? I use to go to Amaco but now its either Mobil or Shell.

when I first got the car about a year ago I was useing 87. I notice that the car didn't run that good so I stepped up to 93, Now the car runs nice when I hit it.

I use only 93 octane in the car from the local Mobil station. I generally go on wednesdays because its $.05 off a gallon. Gas usually runs me $1.50 a gallon or so. Remember last year when gas went down to about a buck. That was great. But of course it went back up. It'* all those damn SUVs out there. They use too much gas!!! So, in turn, our gas prices go up.

$1.50, that is pretty good, gas aroung here avg $1.69 a gal,NYC the big apple. that sucks.

Oh man, I grew up in Brooklyn and gas was 1.80 last year , now i'm in pa and it'* 1.45 or I sometimes go with sunoco 94 for 1.52, By the way I KNOW you don't park your GN in the street , I got a monte ss '86

I put 87 in it. Around here, it goes for about $1.60/gal. Ouch.

In my experience anything higher is a waste on a NA 3800, no difference in power or gas mileage.

The supercharged cars run best with higher octanes, of course, but running a lower octane once in a while will not kill the car. All our cars have knock sensors and the computer will just retard the timing if you run a lower octane (in a supercharged 3800). It'* probably better not to make a habit of it, though.
