Default Normal operating trans temps?

Is 200* unusual or out of line for a trans temp after stop and go driving?

200 is pretty hot. I run 140-150 in our current 50-60*F weather.

I'd get worried if it never got below 175-180F, but if it'* spiking to 200F after alot of stop and go driving in hot weather, that'* probably not so unusual.

It does suggest you should look into a trans cooler (or a bigger one if you have one already)

Would a higher stall converter increase temps? I know he has a different converter, just not sure if it'* a lower stall or a high stall.

Higher stall will increase temps. I've seen it on Pdad'* car. Both when it went in, and when it came out. His temps rose with it, and dropped back without it.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that, it has an ATI-3259 245mm torque converter. It does take a long time to get that hot, but it stays there. Fluid looks/smells fine.

Ambient temps here have been in the high 60** for the past few days. No undesirable behavior from the trans, I just wanted to know if those temps were out of line. It sounds like they're actually fairly normal for my mods, then...

Get a bigger trans cooler!
Yes with the bigger stall comes more slip and more heat.

The last tranny died on the freeway, I noticed the heat climb from 160 to 185 in a short period of time, pulled over and it was dead.

New one is running 140 to 160 with a 160 tstat.
