Seems like I'm one of the only ones out there who'* smitten with the thing, or is even happy with how it turned out! This true? Comments?
Not enough retro styling for me, when a car company brings back a classic it should look the original. It seems they just took the name and gave nothing back, same thing with the malibu.

How so? it'* got power!!! I believe, personally, that including cues from the original car in a rebirth of a nameplate is okay, but making it look like the car from the past is just stealing from other'* good, but already done, ideas. Make it an evolution of the classic, not just a retro remake, like the new T-Bird. That thing'* just sad :( no imagination, sheesh. Not to say the GTO is a good example of my philosophy, but, hey, at least it'* got that V8 power and rear-wheel drive. Not to mention it still looks pretty cool, if a little bland, but, hey, remember the original? A wolf in sheep'* clothing? Everything worth mentioning was under the hood. GM has done the GTO proud, I think
Now all they need to do is add some nice ram air induction, and we'll be all set =) That would also serve to add some flair to the appearence, but not overdo it. Just my opinion, as always

The Malibu bit I do kinda agree with ya about, though :( Hey, at least it'* not a bad car, for what it does
You can make any car with power. If GM made that car, but didn't use the vintage name GTO, it just may have been more of a hit. Stick a vintage name on a car, it'* the styling that has to live up to the name, not just the power.
Personally, I think the GTO is a well styled car.
However, I am instantly turned off to cars that have a vintage look (i.e. Thunderbird, new Mustangs, GTO, 300C, etc.). I look at it as a cop-out from the OEMs and engineers to redesign a legend. IMO, it is an excuse because they can't come up with a new design that'* innovative to compete in today'* automotive marketplace, thus they settle for a redesigned legend. Very weak IMO. And I am yet to see a redesigned legend be a hot seller.
Much like how I feel about oldies that have been "remixed." Sheez...get a life....write you're own music. If I want to listen to karaoke, I'll go to a bar.
End of rant.... :?

A little quick fact here. Back in the 60s, the GTO was based off of a plain jane sedan called the Tempest. While the tempest looks like what we think is a muscle car, back then it was a normal sedan-like car.
This is basically just the new generation GTO. It is truly keeping its roots by doing the same thing that was done in the 60'*.

To be quite honest, if it looks like it was easy to design, then they succeeded to a grand degree.
