New transmission

I've arranged to drop off the 99 SLO at Triple Edge Performance on the 12th. It's going to have a rebuilt transmission with all sorts of upgrades, including a 3.29 FDR with a 4T65E-HD differential and such. It will be awesome!

The way I'm getting it there is I will start driving it from Indianapolis and up I-69 toward Ft Wayne. If the transmission blows up, I'll get it towed. The thing is that I have AAA with their sub-100 mile free towing package. I'm about 110 miles away, so any headway is headway!

haha nice plan. I like it. Dang I work on the 12th or I'd see if ya wanted to meet up in Ft Wayne

radomirthegreat 09-07-2010 11:34 PM

We could meet up when I go to get it. That would make for a much better meet anyway, don't you think? Then we could cruise around. I'll see if my local GP forum has some people available for the pickup date, which I don't yet know.

Alright let me know the pickup date when you find it out. I start classes again monday though so not sure if I'll be available

Is it any better or cheaper to get the transmission rebuilt or drop in the GM transmission from the dealer. My local dealer has the tranny for a little under $2000 not including labor. 3 year 100000 mile warranty.

Yeah but reading his sig seems like he's modded, I doubt they do it or if they do they wouldn't give him any warranty on his car
Gm in fort mcmurray refused to install a tranny on my brothers 06 GP because he's heavily modded lol

The Triple Edge Performance transmission has a 1-year, 15K-mile warranty. It's a whole lot better to have that put in because it's the same price but you get better parts. Have a look at the parts list of the 4T65E High Performance Street/Strip model:

GM don't build them like Triple Edge will

That's put a little too well!

I'm back! I drove all the way to the garage door of Triple Edge Performance! This Bonneville is so solid! I really miss driving it...

The plan now is actually to do a full-on rebuild with the 3EP high performance setup plus an HD differential and an upgraded input shaft. I'm going to have so much fun with the new 3.29 FDR! Can't wait!

radomirthegreat 11-07-2010 05:33 PM

It's done! Dave just called! It's all back in & running!

I was talking to Paul from PRJ, and he told me that for my build he would recommend a single chain. So I called Dave at 3EP, left him a voicemail message asking if it's reasonable to swap out chains months after a rebuild, and he called back saying that as he was about to put together the transmission, he got my voicemail; also, he had a chain right there in his shop. I decided to opt for the 7/8" single chain. 8)
I have everything on Dave's list of the high performance build plus a hardened input shaft and a single 7/8" chain. br2

I'm going on Tuesday to pick it up!

YAY cant wait to see some pics of her up and running

I'm back! My SLO is back at my house! It's so awesome!

Dave, from 3EP, says that the welded-solid front trans mount made the car vibrate too much, but I wasn't sure about that since it was fine for me. Then he mentioned that actually it had vibrated so much that the bolts were loose. He put threadlock on them and tightened them into place. When I got in the car, yes, I noticed the vibration. It's definitely time to come up with a safer solution to the front trans mount thing. I'm going to make a custom mount set to get rid of the torque axis mount and change the passenger side dogbone, which has been eaten away at by a persistent oil leak from the rear valve cover.

The car is otherwise sound! I enjoyed my CD player, cruised calmly, and enjoyed the little blip of greatness I get when I simply press the throttle from a stop. The thing about the new drive ratio is that the car just lurches forward with such greater ease that it's like it has quite a few more mods! Can't wait to put on more stuff!
