Default New Tire Help

Hello everyone. I just recently stumbled upon this site and I am now wondering if anyone can give me some advice.

My dad has a 2000 Silver SSEi and I am trying to help him look for some replacement tires. Although, he has no complaints about the Eagle RS-A’* that came stock, according to Tire Rack they are far inferior to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/*. (He is looking for another all season tire.)

My questions are these…

- Are the Michelin Pilot Sport A/* everything that they seem cut out to be?

- If I increase the tread width by 10 millimeters for the new tires will the stock rims still fit? What will the effects of doing so be?

- If I do increase the tread width, between 245/50R17 and 245/55R17 size tires which size is he better off with? (The difference in diameter in comparison with the stock tires is 1.96% smaller and 1.60% larger respectively.)

If anyone can take a second to help me out here it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
