Default New Motor Trend - SCOOP!!

I found this on page 24 of the new Motor Trend. I will paraphrase:

The first non-Cadillac Performance Divison vehicle will be the all-new 2004 Pontiac Gran Prix, powered by a redesigned Aurora V8. 300hp in a Variable Valve Timing environment. This is a true surprise! This is the same engine that will power the new 2005 Bonneville.

Also coming from GM...450 HP twin turbo Northstar V8. This engine will be found in the new STS-V and the XLR-V in 05 and 06, respectively.

Plenty of other GM news in this issue.. go out and get one today!!!

The Aurora V8 is what I'm interested at. ( I thought the Grand Prix G-force has the series III 3.8L ) The twin turboed Northstar although is potent, is still basically the same engine. ( without turbo )

The STS-V sounds like a nightmare. 450hp in a FWD car? I want to see how they get the power down without spinning the tires all the way into the triple digits. I also want to see what transaxle GM is planning to use.

The '05 STS will be on a rear-drive platform, probably the same platform as the '05 Bonneville, Park Ave/Lesabre, and Impala. GM is done with front drive in their big cars - now that they have all the electronics to control traction and braking + the independant rear perfected in the current Corvette. I think MB and BMW should watch their backs. AMG and M won't mean too much come September 2005.

All I have to say is that they are making these cars fast thats cool but somebody is going to f therwe stuff up if they can't handle the power and the lightness of the car. Also i thought the g-force was powered by the 280x280 too.

You can easily drop 450hp through the 4T80-E. Traction will require a limited slip to help out and traction bars. Thatí* my plan. Actually 450-500hp is the mark I was looking at. 400-500hp is plenty for a streetcar. I mean even if I had to I could get 400hp out of the ASG 5.0 unit, so I might do that.. I figure a vette is happy with 400hp so an h body will do fine with 400hp. I prefer the lumpy cam feel and sound. For bigger HP the 4.6l is very capable of putting out 700hp. And the 4t80-e can be made to take 600hp. I did that research quite some time back. Yes it is hard to control the hp if not set up properly but it can be done reliably and soon as I get my store cleaned up I will start on getting a deal with ASG to make the kit for us. If they cant due to time or other issues I Have another company who will do it. Either way you look at it once it gets going I am going to have the ďholy grailĒ available for the FWD H body.

I have talked about how companies who I bothered about the build up of the 600hp twin screw 3.8l Bonneville never returned my calls or e-mails. Well I lied they did tell me the GN turbo will work on a Cadillac 4.6l engine. So regardless of your situation a turbo is available to add later. A 3.8 can put out 600hp with this turbo so donít worry you can still have lots of fun with your 4.0 & 4.6l. I will be also looking into the turbo soon. Hope that helped

Which would be less costly ?? Having a 3.8L at 600hp or 4.6 ?? With the turbo kit, wouldn't you have to get an intercooler for it ? I also remembered you mentioning that it'* easier to meet emission with 4.6.. but I just found out that in Ontario.. that would require you to insure your car under as "Hot Rod" before they can do the emission test with the 4.6 ( they compare it to a similar sized motor from the 80'* ). Which means that'* a good excuse to have your insurance go up... but yea.. I still do agree with you that I like the sound of a V8. Humm... whatabout the V10 off dodge Ram / Viper ??

I Love the viper. My mother in-law drives a v10 dodge ram dully and compared to the ford v10 (tiny pistons) the dodge kicked hard. My mother in-law tested both with full loads, that being horses. Anyway that engine is awesome! I really want to look more into the ASG 5.0 kit because as far as I understand so far the 4.9 were a stroked 4.5l? So does that mean stroking the current unit is out or is that relative to the 4.5 stroke.? I have to talk to ASG but they are very very busy right now.
