Going to look at a 92 SSEI, Burgundy with tan interior tomorrow . Car has almost 190,000 miles on it, but the lady that owns it says it has always been garaged and looks almost new. Has all maintenance records for me to look at. She is asking 1000.00. Any thoughts about what to look for? Have no experience with this year Bonneville. Oh, she says the only thing that doesn't work is the traction control.

Thanks for any help,

John

want to check for rust. The places to look are under the front ground effect and under the rear part of it. You can reach your hand under it just enough to check. Also, look in the rear wheel wells right in the middle. The undercoating likes to crack in there and then rust inside it cause there is a body seam there.

Check all the power functions. Bring a CD if it has one cause they tend not to work. Check for signs of water in the headliner and the carpet.

Check the Supercharger for noise.

That'* all I got for now.

Ditto all of Jimmy Floyd’* comments. Be apprehensive of any transmission problems, check underbody rust along rockers, front and rear subframe to body connections, rust in floor pan near parking brake. Most other mechanical issues are easier to deal with.

If all is decent, it should be a good deal. I bought the ’93 almost 2 years ago with a little less $ and a little more miles. By looking at the condition of interior and paint when I bought mine, you would never guess the underbody condition. It has lived a well cared for life in Cincinnati since ’97 but was originally a Chicago area car.

Thanks, and one more question. Hope this doesn't seem stupid, but does the Series I suffer from the UIM/LIM problems of the SeriesII?

No, the series one doesn't suffer from the LIM gasket issues. The UIM doesn't apply to supercharged cars as the supercharger is the UIM.

I'd also check motor mounts, gasket seepage, trans fluid and shifting. etc. at those miles..anything could be going on.

Check the anti lock brakes and see if they work. That could be a very expensive repair.........assuming you want it.

Well, thanks for everybody'* replies, but my definition of clean and in good shape was totally different from hers. There was so much oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets it started smoking about 1 minute after I started it up. Leather seats torn to hell, headliner sagging, bald tires, tan carpet was black.....etc. Never know till you look, huh?
