Need new rubbers

So I need new rubber... If I am to go to SEBF I have to have rubber by then, which is Oct. 26th-28th

I am trying to find the best for the least amount. Lesser price takes precedent to an extent. Right now im browsing online, Friday I'm going by the place where my current rubber came from (Merchant's Tire) to see what they have to offer, we've done buissness with them for a long time and its been good, but i know they wont install unless we purchase from them...

Whats the Tire size for an '93 SSE
I have found a couple different tire sizes online...

any recommendations?

thanks

PRD2BDF 10-03-2007 09:35 PM

I think it would be 225/60/16 if yours are 16

I strongly recommend Falken ZE512s, they're the best bang for the buck IMO, mine cost just under 400 for the set

bonnie94ssei 10-03-2007 09:41 PM

I got Bridgestone Potenza G009s for $400. Amazing tires for the money. I'm getting another set come spring time!

93-SSE 10-03-2007 09:41 PM

I was just those Falkens too
8)

tirerack.com didnt have falken, but Merchant's site had 'em, i think I may go wit that...not bad price either

Hans 10-03-2007 09:44 PM

g009s...yokohama z4s....my fav's for cheap tires.

93-SSE 10-03-2007 09:51 PM

I found the Bridgestone G 009s

I don't see any Yoko Z4s?

I've got those on BOTH cars if that tells you anything ;) Very happy, especially for the price.

93-SSE 10-03-2007 10:10 PM

The Bridgestone G 009s aren't available through Merchants Tire...they aren't showing up int the searches through Merchants...

Pirelli isn't on Merchants either but what about the Pirelli P4s

PRD2BDF 10-03-2007 10:11 PM

Do you have Discount Tires down there?

bandit 10-03-2007 10:13 PM

Check out Hankook and Falken's

I got 235x55R17's for 109 each so im sure 225x60R16 would be less 8)

PRD2BDF 10-03-2007 10:15 PM

any of these stores close to you?
http://dt.know-where.com/DiscountTir...ion/US/NC.html

Sorry, no Discount Tires in your state

93-SSE 10-03-2007 10:16 PM

I can set up the whole thing online through Merchants Tire and make an appointment the price its giving me online is
$424.96 for the Falken ZE-512 :: Includes Free Lifetime Tire Rotation and Alignments

wjcollier07 10-03-2007 10:22 PM

225-60R16s for sure. 215s just look too small for the body style.

Tires that I personally recommend:

Rated in rank

Bridgestone Potenza G 009 - $84
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Positions - $118
Michelin Primacy MXV4 - $127
Michelin HydroEdge - $119
Bridgestone Turanza Serenity - $125
Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge - $107
Goodyear Assurance TripleTred

G009s are definitely the best bang for the buck IMHO, but if you want to spend a little more for something better, I definitely recommend the HydroEdge or the TripleTreds for many reasons including that they both last 80-90k miles and are both EXCELLENT all seasons.

tripscarcare95 10-03-2007 10:22 PM

I just got a set of Michelin hyrdoedge on my winter rims, havent driven on the road with them yet but they seem like a great tire

bandit 10-03-2007 10:23 PM

Falken ZE-512 ,, those where the ones i was goign to get if DunnTire could not get the Hankooks at a good price 8)

93-SSE 10-03-2007 10:28 PM

I dont need tires that last 80-90k miles, liable be dry rot before then... :?

Maybe I'll pok around localy to find someone with Bridgestone Gs

My Goodyear Eagle GAs look more expensive to replace than anything mentioned here @ $128 each

dillcc 10-03-2007 10:37 PM

Can't tirerack.com ship directly to a local installer? That's what I did on my last set.

93-SSE 10-03-2007 10:40 PM

Lemme look into that, if i can get them to send to Merchants, im going Bridgestone G, if not I'll prbably go with the Falken ZE512

or Goodyear triple tread if someone wants to help me pay for 'em

93-SSE 10-03-2007 10:57 PM

Or what about these?
Kumho Ecsta SPT

Yeah right, at $212 a piece, and beside mine doesn't spin the wheels enough to make enough smoke to be worth it

ChilinMichael 10-03-2007 11:01 PM

I have to just put my input in here, they are a bit more expensive I believe but, I just got a set of Continental ContiProContacts for my car and....WOW is about all I can say. I can barely ever get them to lose traction and let's just say the speeds I can turn at without having a problem I cannot post on here... (their wet traction is amazing too, btw)

Looking at Falken FK-452 now @ $82.00 each
opinions?

[edit] not all season tires...

b18jason 10-03-2007 11:24 PM

firestone fr380's are good, cheap tires, we sell alot of them where i work and never have any complaints
i would personally go with goodyear assurance comfort treads, but they are around 130-140 each but are well worth it and are the smoothest and best driving tire i've owned. (they are also a 80K mile tire, but by the sounds of it, they would be junk before you would wear the tread down)

Barry 10-03-2007 11:25 PM

I think that replaced the 451. I've been checking on tires also, and people really have high praise for the Falken.

93-SSE 10-03-2007 11:37 PM

I think I have narrowed it down then...

Falken ZE-512 or Bridgestone Potenza G 009

If I find a deal locally I'm going with Bridgestone G 009, otherwise I'm continuing with Merchants Tire and getting the Falken

and on that note, thanks for the input guys!

off to bed for me, 'night

93-SSE 10-05-2007 04:19 PM

Well im not going to deal with wal mart so im not even looking there...

Tread Quarters If I order the Bridgestone Potenza G009 they are $132 each, which includes Free Mounting, Free Tire disposal, free valve stems, Free alignment check, Free Balancing and Free TMPS Service (TMPS?)... or I could purchase online (for 84.00) and have them installed for 28 per tire, which would be slightly cheaper but i dont get the free rotation/alignment check ect...

Merchants Tire doesn't carry Bridgestone, but would install them if i bring them in(which i thought they wouldn't), i believe its 11 per tire, a good bit cheaper but again no free rotation ect...

Merchants Tire if i oder from them, I can get the Falken ZE-512 for 96.00 each and will include Free Mounting, Free Rotation, Alignment check and 30 Ride Guarantee

Which would you go for?
Tread Quarters (Bridgestone Potenza G009)
or
Merchants Tire (Falken ZE 512)
or
Buy online, have installed (Bridgestone Potenza G009)

wjcollier07 10-05-2007 04:36 PM

Its actually TPMS, Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

And I suggest the Bridgestones at tire rack and then have them mounted. Although that deal for the bridgestones with all those free services really seems like a damn good deal.

sonoma_zr2 10-05-2007 05:23 PM

I really like the G009's. Handle decent in snow, good in rain, even seem to have pretty good wear life. I haven't run them at the strip (might on the 13th) but I think they would be alright. Bob (Dillcc) likes his also.

93-SSE 10-05-2007 05:51 PM

I'd prefer the Bridgestone Potenza G009 but right now with money being tight is what im deciding on.

93-SSE 10-06-2007 04:49 PM

I ended up with the Falken ZE-329

I Had decided to go with the Falken ZE-512 @ Merchants Tire but apparently they don't keep the 512s in stock, and the company warehouses only had 1 tire. He then told me they had the 329 in stock and it was buy 3 get 1 free. I persisted with the 512 so he called two outside sources and they didn't have it either. He asked if I had another tire in mind, I told him the Bridgestone G009, though you guys don't carry Bridgestone. And then he was like well let me see what we can find. He only found a Tourenza and again only 1 in stock...

So I decided to go with the Falken ZE-329, the buy 3 get 1 free deal was pretty good. I had looked at the 329 vs 512

Hopefully these aren't too bad, we'll see tomorrow at 12:00 when they're installed!

wjcollier07 10-06-2007 05:10 PM

no, they're not too bad, but i still think it woulda been better to go with the G009s online.

How much they charging you for the falkens?

93-SSE 10-06-2007 05:24 PM

94 each, buy 3 get one free was like 311

then 12 per tire disposal
and 20 something road hazard (free flat repair ect)
and then Free Rotation, Balancing and Alignment check and valve stems

im out 435 total, not too bad i don't think, considering what i got out of it.

PRD2BDF 10-06-2007 05:35 PM

I think all Falkens are great tires! I bet you will be very satisfied!

Ecsta SPT Colored Smoke tires will leave a sticky residue on the vehicle''s underbody, suspension, wheelwells and the fenders during extended burnouts.
hmmm too bad they didn't make a tire made with POR-15

Falken ZE 912

I have a 2000 Park Avenue and would like to know the opinions on the Falken ZE 912 tires. I was interested in the ZE 512, but locally the 912's are available.

The price I found is 115 each, includes mounting, balancing, road hazzard, nitrogen inflated, etc.. so, i figure 460 out the door...plus tax of course. I have an appointment in a couple hours, but I thought I'd visit the ol' Bonne Gang for some input.

Dont go with the falkens, nothing but garbage. I should know, we sell them at work.

best bang for the buck are the goodyear assurance tripletreads or the michelin weatherwise 2

oh and the 512's are being discontinued cuz they suck. lol

Seeing this is an older thread but I think it's not too old...

Why you say the Falkens suck? I currently run 512s

The last post before I revived this thread, was not even 2 months ago, so i assume this isn't an old thread at all.

As for the tires, I should have posted before I was in dire need of tires, but I posted a couple hours before my appointment.

I am still very curious to hear what others have to say about the 512's as well as the 912's. I bought a set of 4 912's yesterday, and I really like them, so far. We are going to experience rain and/or snow all this week, so I should really get the chance to test them out.

My old tires were not shaped like a circle, as my new ones are. That's always a plus. ;)

Anyone have any opinions on nitrogen filled tires? Where I bought my tires, they unflate them with nitrogen, which is supposed to be better than air. I read some stuff online about it, but aside from all the theories, has anyone noticed a difference running nitrogen instead of air?

Thanks again for any and all help.

It's actually borderline. After a couple months, the threads are considered old and shouldn't be revived.

We'll let this one go, but keep that in mind for future reference.

I have no idea why this is such an important issue, but I don't post a lot and I don't have time to keep up with the little quirky changes or rules that may apply. I see no harm in asking a question in a thread that's not old.....imo.... Oddly, when posting new threads, on this and other forums, i have seen too often, folks replying with.. use the search option. I used that option, and added to a recent subject only to have more drama about an old thread, and not a lot of replies to the actual question at hand.

I am almost insulted by the term..... we'll let this one go..... By all means, if you think i did something wrong, don't let it go. do whatever you do when someone is so offensive, they'd ask a question on a vintage 2 month old....thread.. sheesh..

Got an opinion on the tires? never mind. I don't really care at this point...
