Default Need a new engine...

Whats up guys, I wish my first post wasn't this embarressing (or long). I did the dumbest thing you can do to a car, I put off fixing the problem I was having with low oil pressure (a familiar problem as I have read some other posts). Well, after passing someone my engine apparently overheated. The plennem warped whcih caused a gasket to blow? (I don't know alot about cars thats what the service tech told me) My problem now is I need a new engine and I was wondering what you guys think I should do. Thanks ahead of time and please understand I LEARNED MY LESSEN :?

P.*. I bought my car used about 4 months ago. Iit'* a 95' with 102k miles. I love Bonnevilles and am glad there'* a site like this.

P.*.*. I asked and what the dealer is offering is a 67k with 1year parts labor warranty.[/u]

Plastic upper intake strikes again. There are a lot of posts on the board about that, have a look around. You can obtain lots of information about how to prevent it the next time.

3800 Series II engines are plentiful, you'll be able to find one no problem

Welcome to the forum and good luck

Tough luck. That happened to me last Nov. What sucked about the whole deal is that I fried the starter too. Got it to the dealer and got it fixed all under an extended warranty, the bill was over 600$ but I only had to pay 50$ If it'* just the plenum that went bad I'd say it would be cheaper to get a new one, then switch to a 180 t-stat, check the Techinfo for more on that.
Welcome to the club, too bad you joined under such crummy circumstances!

no worries, you didn't do anything to cause the intake to fail. They were defective in the Series II engines and it is a very common problem. Just thought I'd chime in here and let you know you didn't cause it to fail.

I had something simular happen to me, I was going to a party and the engine started to overheat. It didnt get into the red before I got there, but when I went to leave it was steaming out from under my hood. I called my dad and he put antifreeze in it, only for it to go into hydrolock and freeze. Apparently there was a leak and I was running without coolant for awhile. It cost us about $1200 to fix!

The dealership that I bought the car from is fixing the car. Its costing me $3100 with tax to get the new engine installed. It comes with a 1 year warranty. Is this too much :?:

That sounds a little high...whats the mileage on it?

For $3100, I'd almost consider getting a 96 SSEi, for slightly more...and with the supercharger, you'd never have to worry about the plastic intake manifold. Have you tried a wrecker yard? That can be more risky, but definitely cheaper if $3100 is not in the budget

I'm in the process of getting a new engine too :( My dealership wanted 4000 bills for an engine. pssshhhh. This perforamnce shop wanted 3600 to rebuilt it . (both warrantys are same as your dealer) A salvage yard wanted 1500 for installing an engine w/ 17k miles. (100 day warranty). And finally i found a shop through some people that will rebuild it for 2100 and it comes with a 1 yr warranty. I'm most likely goning w/ the last option b/c of the 1 yr warranty and b/c of this.... I got refered to this guy through another mechanic, if this guy screws up then he will probably get less business from the first mechanic. The bad rep. will carry over.

So, back to the original topic, you should definatly do some more searching. More options are always better.
