Need Feedback
Well it'* time for my 2001 SE to have a new transmission (145,000) which I plan to keep. I have what I think are two choices since there are no Bonneville'* in my area salvage yards. I can take it to the GM Shop and have a Certified Rebuilt installed with a 3yr/50,000 mile warranty or take it to a place like AAMCO with a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. AAMCO said there might be other charges once they get into the transmission. GM is $400 more for basically the same rebuild except they have to order the transmission. I would like some feedback, pros and cons.

If you tell us where you are located, we may have a member in your area that can suggest where to take your car.
My personal opinion is take it to a transmission shop, not the dealership. But that'* just opinion.

stay away from AAmco my buddy took his neon there and got a tranny replaced he has been back 5 times cause the tranny is still screwed up after being replaced 3 times by them and this is within a month
I'm for the dealership. At a difference of only $400 AAmco will probably "find" some stuff that needs to be done that would even the price out. GM will be a trans rebuilt from the factory in a nice case. It arrives, the tech swaps it out and you have a great warranty where they'll do it all for you if there'* an issue.
if you are looking to keep costs down. Have you checked car-part.com?
