Mystery Switch
The 2002 SSEI I'm looking at has a mystery switch under the hood. I didn't get a chance to take a photo, but I'll try to do that Wed when I go drive it. Anyway, it is a grounding plunger type switch that is mounted on the drivers side strut tower and is closed by the hood. The wire runs back behind the motor it looks like. When the hood is closed the switch is open, and when the hood is open, the switch closes. I thought maybe for an underhood light, but I don't see one anywhere. Any clues what it might be? Thanks!!

Thanks! I'll look for evidence of an alarm system. Didn't know they had a hood ajar switch, but this one doesn't look OEM. I'll post a pic or 2 after I've driven it Wed.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I am guessing that it is for an aftermarket remote starter. My truck has the same thing. It is designed so you can't remote start the engine with the hood open. Lets say you are working on the car and have the keys in your pocket, leaning forward over the fender, and bump the button unknowingly.... hope you have good health insurance.
So look at the key fob. See if it is aftermarket.

Thanks for the info...I looked again and I do believe its part of a remote start system that was on the car at one time...its not there now that I can see. I really wanted to get this one, but I'm REALLLY enjoying not having a car payment for the moment so I'm gonna pass and save some cash. I'll get one soon...probably an 02 or 03...maybe even get a GXP! Thanks again for the responses!!
