Default my trip to Virginia

I was very ecouraged by how my car ran on the trip. I filled up with 93 Octane in Mill Hall PA along I-80 and filled up again on US 119 just south of Charleston W.VA and I got 28.3 MPG about 350 miles. That was on roads that were very hilly and curvy. Coming back I filled up again in Coburn VA. 93 octane gas down there was $2.559 a gallon on Sunday. I drove exactly 400 miles on I-81 to Chambersburg PA and got about 35 mpg. My jaw dropped when I figured out my mileage. I guess driving on a straight road comapaired to hilly and curvy roads make a difference. The only trouble I had was when I was down there I went up into the hills on very sharp and steep hills going very slow and my engine got pretty hot about 235 deg and my fans were running. I just put in a new radiator and pulled the intake and supercharger for new gaskets. Would drilling a 1/8" hole in the 185 deg thermostat help? Around herewher I live if I'm sitting or driving slow it will get up to about 210 deg. Any suggestions?

Drilling a hole or two MAY only make it take longer to warm up...however, a bit more flow couldnt hurt..35mpg? Sounds like your car is in pretty good running shape!
Removing the large "Series 2 supercharged" cover from your engine might help with air flow too

I took the cover off my engine right after I bought my car. Engine looks better without the cover and you can see the SC.

First of all, your temp guage should be checked for accuracy. I know that when I have the scantool on my car, the guage reads 10-15 higer than the actual reading on the scantool.

A 1/8 in hole probably wont help you run cooler. It may only delay the amount of time it takes for your engine to warm up before the thermostat opens.

Yes its very beautiful there. I went to far western VA about 40 miles NW of Bristol TN. I stayed in Norton. My lady friend I met lives in Big Stone Gap near Norton. I would love to move there but theres no jobs unless I want to work in the coal mines and thats NOT going to happen.
