Default In my search for another Bonneville...

...I ran across this important option in a used car dealer'* listing on a 2003 SSEi:

"- 3.8 liters V6 front engine with overhead valve and two valves per cylinder"

That just struck me as funny. I kept thinking two valves/cylinder 3800s are apparently much higher performance than the 3800s with one valve/cylinder. Certainly something to brag about.

Don't forget ...those are overhead valves.

For anyone that'* not a gearhead nutbag like my friend SSE Motorhead.. All gasoline engines need at least two valves for each cylinder. One for the intake of fuel and air and the other for the exhaust.

My Bonneville is actually the first car I've owned with only 2 valves per cylinder...

My two Saturns had 4 cylinders and 16 valves (4 per cylinder)
My Alfa Romeo 164 had 4 cylinders and 16 valves (4 per cylinder), AND two spark plugs per cylinder.
My Toyota Starlet and Honda Integra both had 4 cylinders and 12 valves (3 per cylinder).

The VW 1.8T engine has 5 valves per cylinder.

overhead valves as opposed to overhead cams... if you have overhead cam, you dont have what is described as "overhead valves"

I'm I right in thinking overhead valve engines are pushrod engines?
