Default My baby was violated!

Okay after a wonderful day at the junk yard(picked up driver and passenger power heat side mirrors $13 a piece and auto dimming mirror$3), my baby was violated by some crackhead that want her head unit and junk in her trunk(but she didn't have any anyway). Happened outside a daycare we were looking at as a possible spot for my wingman (not anymore). Needless to say I am pissed, but have to blame myself for forgetting to arm my $275 alarm . I could care less about the radio but the fact that someone was inside is more than enough for me. The radio was ripped out with the one screw on the passenger side broken off, and her trunk lock was pried out. This has been a most traumatic experience, I have had a hard time even driving her. Hopefully I can repair and move on.

Thanks, I'm hoping going back to the junkyard will boost my spirits.

Sorry to hear about your car......
I hope everything works out for you.
Are you going to do anything through insurance?

I too know the feeling, at least it was years ago.

Look at this as an opportunity to get a different head unit if you were thinking about it. Still sucks...but try and make the best of it.

If they were in the car, why'd they pry the trunk? 96 doesn't pop unless you have the key in ignition right?

I don't have an inside trunk release so they just pried the actual lock out of the trunk to get it open, they didn't find anything but my stuff from the junk yard. At the moment I can't get it open to see if they took anyting from trunk. Not worth insurance $500 premium, I don't think. Will fixing my trunk be expensive?

Well the trunk is most likely going to have to be replaced. Popping the lock out of the body does a lot of damage. So you're looking at buying a new/used trunklid(spoiler? You might save by swapping that over from your old trunklid), paying for paint-matching and installation. Probably around $700-900 if you go to a dealer.

Hopefully I can get it at the yard. Are 91-95 interchangeable with 96-99? I know there are plenty of 92-95'* there but I have seen only a couple of 96-99'*. May have to do this myself, if so would I have to buy new locks, or get a key to fit the lid from the junkyard? Paint doesn't matter much right now I have a rainbow car anyway.
