Motor mount upgrade
5 Attachment(s)
My front trans mount had a lot of play, and I could see that part of the rubber had pulled away from the metal. I've also been seeing a lot of odd KR. So I decided to upgrade the mount.
This mount right here. Attachment 21879 Wasn't to hard, but it's now out. Attachment 21880 When under there, I noticed my drag radials, well, what was left of them. Changed over to my winter tires. I always wait till November for this, but considering what is left of my tires, and the way the weather has been, thought I better do it now. Attachment 21881 So I drill a hole, dang, the bolt don't fit. Ahh, I have a 1/2" hardened bolt, and a 3/8 drill. Great, my 1/2" bit don't fit. And my wife is gone and my car is short one motor mount. So I had to walk to Menards, only about 3/4 miles, so no big deal. Made the hole the correct size, cut off the extra and it's ready to put back in. Attachment 21882 Was a pain, but I got it back in. Attachment 21883 No more movement on the engine now. I took it for a drive. So far the weird KR seems to be gone, but we will see. I thought I fixed it several times in the past only to have it show back up. I did a little WOT and chirped the tires when it shifted in to 2nd gear at 45. :thumbup2 |
nice sorry about the mount you wanted from me i just picked the ssei up today and brought it to my new house so i planned to pull it for ya today but seems you dont need it lol nice job hope you recurring KR stays gone

Looks like it's better, but still have some. I'll have to dig deeper. Something is causing false KR. I will say, solid mounting that mount really sharpened up the shifts. There was times I could feel the engine moving back and forth causing the RPMs to move.

I'm not sure if that's a nylon lock nut but if not you may want to get one.
I had a regular nut with a lock washer and it wouldn't stay tight. (I should have mentioned that) |
It's a locking nut. If I happen to see it moving I'll hit it with the welder.
|
Good idea.
|
Also why I wanted the nut on the outside. I must say, it really holds the engine in place now. Hardly moves at all.
|
My mount is doing the same thing. Been pondering weather to replace it or...but, you gave me an idea to fix mine.

I went from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29zY_tQc030 To the bolt mount and I was pretty happy about it.. lol. I actually snapped that small metal shaft connecting the two plates before that vid.. that's why it moves to much. I made the bolt mount out of a new mount because of that. |
That's a nice mount. Glad to hear it helped you out. Would you recommend a solid front mount to others?
