MORE problems with MacPhee Pontiac

Well today I brought my 97 BACK to MacPhee Pontiac, for the 5th trip since my accident in October.

Today there we supposed to do 3 things....

A)Fix the antenna which they broke last time
B)Fix the trunk release... 5th time it's been in for that
C)Inspect the Supercharger (figure it can't hurt)

So lets see how they did....

A)Ordered the wrong antenna in, so they were unable to fix it
B)Forgot to order the parts for the trunk release... unable to fix it

And now for the Supercharger.... they told me they were 100% sure it was just a Boost Control Solinoid, and if I wanted to order one in, it would be $50+tax. See the thing is John tested the BCS yesterday (and the day before) and found no fault with it, and infact removed it and the SC still only produced 3psi. I asked MacPhee if I ordered it, and it did not fix my problem could I return it. No... I could not. So even though they were 100% sure, if it wasn't the problem, I could return it. When I told them about how John (AFAR) checked the BCS and proved it wasn't the issue, they agreed the BCS must be fine. Then they said I owed them $43 for the inspection..... .... This is after they just finished telling me they didn't fix the two things they were supposed to do, and failing to do a proper diagnostic on the SC.

I asked to speak to the Service Manager (Ron Ozone) who inspected my car last time it was in because of the antenna they broke. He basically said, yea it's too bad they didn't have the right parts in, but there was nothing he could do about it. He said, please bring the car back later for them to repair it. I asked him about the charge for inspecting the SC, when they didn't even do it properly, or why I would have to pay for the BCS if it wasn't the problem. He said that's just the way things are, they don't do work for free. I said, look.... you've got a very unhappy customer, this is my 5th trip into your shop, from a domino effect that's been happening for over 3 months. How do you expect to make me a happy customer. He said "there's nothing I can do for you". I replied, that I really do like some of the people that work at MacPhee Pontiac, but if something wasn't done I would take my business elsewhere. To which he replied, "if that's what you have to do". I said good day to him and hung up.

I went later today and picked up my car, paid my bill, and plan to file a major complaint. I've run a service department (for computers) in the past, and that's not the proper way to run it. I've bent over backwards for customers... espically when myself (or someone in my department) has dropped the ball, as in this case.

Anyways.... just needed to rant....

EDIT: For anyone not knowing the full story.... read the post below...

Looks like it's time to go elsewhere. These guys are just pathetic when it comes to professionalism and customer service. :x Sorry for the hassle Jason, I can only imagine the grief you're going through.

Man it's a royal pain in the @$$....

I'm 1/2 tempted to just have them mail me the parts and do it myself, or pay my mechanic to do it... just so it doesn't have to go back there again. :x

On the off chance they are right about the BCS, I am going to order one on Monday... but NOT FROM THEM.... I've got a friend who works at the parts dept in Carroll Pontiac (across town)... he gets me all my parts for cost. (in return I give him his computer parts for cheap)

MacPhee said they scanned her and found a BCS code.
My AFAR mechanic (John) scanned her twice (two seperate days) and never found any codes. I do the network at AFAR and I trust John, so I don't think he's trying to scam me.

This whole thing is really fustrating.... I told my folks tonight about what happened today. My father knows the owner of MacPhee Pontiac, and plans to drop in tomorrow. They've bought all their cars from MacPhee since 91... infact my 91 came from MacPhee Pontiac. Their most recent purchase was 2003 Envoy SLT (fully loaded). They said if something isn't done to correct this, they'll never buy from their again. And they've had problems the past few months too. They had their tires rotated, and MacPhee lost one of their center caps, and didn't tell them. They had the car in to have a light replaced, and they didn't even replace it. But worest off, dad damaged the front bumper during that big snowfall we had, brought it in to have it repainted. They phoned him to say it was done. He said he'd be in first thing the next morning. When he went to get it (it was snowing that day) took him and my mother 1 hr to get there, they informed him it wasn't complete and wouldn't be complete until late afternoon. UGH!!! (mom was pissed).

I'm really hoping a search engine crawler comes through here and picks up on the name MacPhee Pontiac and problems complaints and poor customer service

Really fustrated.... I'm going to tell them when the parts finally do arrive, they can drive a rental over to me, and take my 97 into the shop. When it's done they can bring it back to me. I'm not spending my time bringing it to them. They goofed up royally (several times) and I'm not paying for it anymore.

Ok this place sounds really disgusting. In fact it sounds like it's a Pepboys for heaven's sake. I took a tire to Pepboys once that had a nail in it and I had them repair it. They called me up and said it was done, and when I went there to pick it up there was a mechanic standing on MY tire while he was working on another car. Then I noticed they never even fixed it....the nail was still in it. :x I wouldn't be surprised if all the mechanics at MacPhee aren't even certified. They just sound that unprofessional.

Take your business elsewhere....dealers usually suck -- I've found a few that know what they are doing, but a lot of them are incredibly stupid. I guess you could say that about any auto repair shop, dealer or otherwise.....

macho_mike21 04-03-2004 12:08 AM

we have had pretty good luck with dealers, the one you have sounds downright incompitnent. What a bunch of idiots. Im 17 and I know thats not the way to run a business.

Probably the worst thing you can do is tell everyone you know not to buy from them or anything if cars happen to come up in a conversation. Usually those kinds of horror stories will really influence people from doing business with that dealer.

Damemorder 04-03-2004 12:24 AM

That's A good idea... If anyone were to be looking for Pete Mankins Pontiac in Texarkana Texas I'd tell them how much that dealership sucks....

There are good, and there are bad. I'm lucky, most of the GM dealerships in my area are great. There are exceptions, but as a rule, good to great.
If you think there's anything I can do to help you, PM me. I've made calls for members in the past.

Nearly 2500 members world-wide have some influence. We'll have to clean up this thread if I do that ;)

Merlin 91/97 04-03-2004 08:33 AM

Thanks for the offer Will... it's really appricated.
But I'm going to take care of it myself.
I'm going to file a complaint into MacPhee on Monday, and also contact GM Canada's Complaint Department directly (if possible).

My folks were very displeased the last few times they went into MacPhee Pontiac as well. They are going to file their own complaint regarding what happened to them because of the on-going problems I'm having.
