Default Missing?

How do I know if my car is missing? I'm just curious. Befor the Bonnie I had a 1990 Lumina. A mechanic told me it was missing occasionally, but I never noticed anything. Of course it had 215,000 miles on it when he told me that...

You will get an SES light and if its a hard miss it will blink.

The plugs/wires in the lumina were less that a year old. But I could smell it running rich at idle and knew it was having IAC/EGR problems. The tranny ended up going a few days later so I ended up not having to worry about the engine trouble. A tranny rebuild is not worth the time or money on a car worth $150. I'm not worried about my bonnie missing right now. I was just asking for future reference mostly.
