Does GM have a kit to install the LATCH kid'* seat mount into a "00 SSEI?

The GM website is a little less than clear on that, but I think the answer is that LATCH hardware cannot be retrofitted to a car that was not built that way. However, you can have a top tether mounting installed that can anchor the top of the child seat, and LATCH-compatible seats (which is to say all of them now, I think) can be used in cars without LATCH hardware.

I can tell you from experience (and 3 kids) that you can get a very good, solid mounting of a child seat in the back seat of the car using only its 3-point belts, once the belts are drawn tight through the mounting brackets of the child seat. (When installing the child seat, it helps to lean on it or put your knee into it in order to compress the car'* own seat cushions while you're tightening the belts.)

Also be advised... LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) systems are not any safer than using standard safety belts, but are simply more "user-friendly" for many carseat installers (the average new parents or child transporters). Pretty soon (if not already), every new production car and carseat will be required to be LATCH-equipped... but safety belts can always be used instead. All child restraints in the U.*. must meet the same Federal safety standards regarding crash tests, regardless of brand, price, or features.

I got a new seat so it can go in belt or LATCH. I'd just like the ease of LATCH. Being that I have a "00 it has the top teather allready. After I posted this I stopped by a dealer and annoyed a sales guy by making him show me a '04 just to pop up the back seat to see how LATCH is mounted. Theirs a single bar thats mounted to the body. However not the same mounts as the reg belts. SO yes it is not a retrofit bolt in item. Thanks for the replys.
