how hard is it to remove the water pump on a 97 L67? My water pump went out and I need to replace it ASAP. I can't tell what I have to do exactly. I know hwo to get a water pump off, but I'm not sure how to get to it. Do you have to remove the engine mount on the side near the water pump? If so how do you remove the thing? I guess I'm asking if somebody could tell me how hard it is, and a step by step process. Thanks

Man...a book would make it alot easier.

You got it right on the mount. Put a floor jack under the car with a couple blocks of wood on top. Use this to support the engine. Lift the engine slightly, then remove the mount. I suggest doing the work through the RF wheelwell. Makes it alot easier.

Removal Procedure

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the cooling system.
Remove the drive belt.
Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
Remove the water pump.
Clean all gasket mating surfaces.


Installation Procedure

Using a new gasket, install the water pump on the engine.
Install the water pump bolts. Tighten
Tighten the bolts (1) to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
Tighten the bolts (2) to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
Install the water pump bolts.
Install the accessory drive belt.
Fill the cooling system.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Start the engine.
Check for coolant leaks.

Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Some years (mine is a 93) require the removal of the motor mount. You support the engine to take the weight off the mount. A piece of 2x4 and a floor jack will spread the weight out enough not to crush your oil pan.
