A kill and a loss.......
I was coming down one of the main roads near my house around 9:30 last night, and the light turns red infront of me. Sure enough one of my friends, konrad, is driving with his brother. We had a christmas party with the family and me and my cousin had to go to the corner store to go get some more ice.Anyways, ive been wanting to race this little bastard for so long. His brother is always saying how fast his Neon is ( stock totally, with fart pipe ). We start talking at the light ( pretty long ) and a blue Silverado 4x4 pulls up in the left lane. So here we are 3 wide, and I say to my friend, oh damn this is going to be good. This silverado'* exhaust is like shaking my car. My cousin is ripping and smiling on how I should try and smoke them. My friend is new to stick, in the Neon, so the light goes green and he dumps it a little too hard. He gets some wheelspin, and im brake torquing it. I launch ahead of them both, and I hear the Silverado easing off the lgihts. So im thinking, damn, he dont wanna race. My friend in the Neon catches back up as he winds out 1st, and holds at my door, while im at about 40 km/h. All I hear in the background is the Silverado getting on it, and some wheelspin. Im thinking, WTF? k. My car finally shifts into second, and im doing about 70 now, and the neon is pulling closer to my front bumper. I hear my cousin going oh ****, as the Silverado frikkin owns me and flys by. I shut it down at 100, and I had a foot maybe on the Neon. The silverado had a good 2 carlengths on me. WTF???

My 98 Z71 had many 3800 kills under it'* belt. Never ran a GTP or SSEi with it though.
And that neon shouldn't have been able to hang that well with you. I'm betting your final drive ratio is what got you. Kudos to the Neon for actually breaking traction!
Sounds like alot of fun. Be careful in the weather this time of year!!!!!!!! (that'* an order)

In auto 4wd the front end engages (locks) and the transfer case engages if there is any rear wheel slip. If you do this there will be minimal wear on the transfer case but the pionion gears in the front end will blow out.
In 4w Hi/lo the the front end gets minimal wear where the transfer case gets destroyed because its an exact 50/50 split in power... so if you think about it your really slowing yourself down by adding the lag of the front wheels...

If it looked like a tight race for me, I'd launch with 4Hi, then almost immediately switch to 2hi. Gave me great traction for the first 20 feet or so. After that, I didn't need it.

However IIRC the governor on a Silverado is 98mph, is it not? If it is, either you would've caught up to him real quick once you hit 100, or he had a chip.
