From a local Pontiac dealership. $17, I think that'* a lot. But I don't like the replacement dipsticks the local stores have, and they all have to be custom cut.

Anyways I decided to get it becuase I bent the handle and broke the little rings of plastic below the loop when I was doing my tune up. *NOTE* When doing a tune up you might want to take the engine oil dipstick out when changing the front plugs. lol
And my oil pressure gauge has been wobbling. I remember seeing a little rubber ring on the little plastic bit as well, so I'm guessing when it'* properly in it keeps the pressure sealed, maybe that'* why my gauge is wobbling. Well I'll find out Monday when the new dipstick comes in. Anyone care to wager if it'll change anything?

Dipstick should not have any effect on the pressure. Pressure is created by the pump pushing oil through the crank, cam and all the bearing journals. The dipstick is located in the unpressurized crankcase.

As for the wobbling pressure.. could be the gauge in the cluster, could be the rpm changes and it could be the sender or wiring. Only real way to know is to diagnose each part. Gauge can be tested with resistors for the various pressure readings. Actual pressure can be tested with a mechanical gauge and the wiring would be tested when you did the gauge test.

I've learned you can never really trust the gauge cluster. In most cases bad oil pressure is a gauge or sender.

We'd need to hope Dan'* at home with his manuals to tell us the resistance of the sender. I'm currently away from my manuals.
