Default It'* getting HOT in here......

My engine is giving off a lot of heat lately. The gauge now stays at 200 & sometimes times travels over.

I have a 180 deg stat installed for over a year now. I have over 91000 miles on the engine & not sure what to do next. :? HELP!

Bear! Nice to see you again.

Drill four 1/16" holes in the rim of the thermostat, just inside where the rubber seal sits. Consider a fan override too.

With no air flowing through the rad, it will still hit 200 with the 180 thermostat. You need airflow. Try turning your AC on Auto. That will engage your high-speed fans.

I wouldn't worry too much. On these hot days we have been having, the engine will get warmer than normal. Even with my drilled t-stat, the engine can still get hot.

Although, I just got a fan override switch installed, so when I'm sitting in traffic, I turn it on, and it keeps the temps down.

If I had an FSM for your year, I'd tell you how to do it, but I don't. :(

You can buy the fan override kit from ZZP that will work on your car, though. I custom wired my own on both Bonnevilles, and helped SSEiMatt93 and driverjohn2005 with theirs when they were here a couple weeks ago. We did a 92, 93, and a 95 in an hour or so.

I got the ZZP one. It'* not too hard to install, it'* just a matter of running wire though the firewall which can be a pain.

My engine runs over 200 most of the time. Never harmed anything though. Once I get to cruise on an open road, it cools down.
