Interesting historical Bonneville note:
Big Shooter
In 1964, flamboyant Hollywood designer Nudie Cohn transformed an otherwise standard Bonneville Convertible into a mobile Wild West period piece. Cohn embellished the full-size Pontiac sedan with bull horns on the grille, chrome-plated pistols for handles, rifles on the trunk and sides, and more than 350 silver dollars embedded in the leather interior.
The “Silver Dollar Pontiac” formerly owned by Hank Williams Jr. recently sold for $214,500 at RM Auctions’ 7th Annual Vintage Motor Cars auction in Phoenix. An Indiana collector who asked not to be named bought the vehicle. The Bonneville also contains a rhinestone-covered saddle straddling the transmission hump up front, a saddlebag glove box, and silver horseshoes on the leather-trimmed pedals.
Cohn (born Nuta Kotlyarenko in Kiev, Ukraine) gained a reputation as a tailor to the stars because of his spectacular fashion designs, such as Elvis Presley’* gold lamé suit and many of Roy Rogers’ decorative cowboy outfits. He created 18 Western-style “Nudiemobiles” — mostly Bonnevilles because of their generous length and luxury qualities.
