Ignition switch recall -- new keys?

If I owned one of the cars affected I would just get a quick disconnect key chain and only use the ignition key when driving. From what I've heard and read about the problem only happens when there is swing weight on the ignition key causing the ignition to rotate out of the on position, the new detent will help keep the ignition stay locked into the on position. I had a buddy almost kill us both in my Firebird because he thought it would be cute to shut off my car while driving. Since it was console Shift it didn't have the mechanism to prevent the column from locking up. Luckily I was able to stop before we hit anything. Stupid teenager pranks.

The electrical part of the switch is the only part to be replaced.. The key cylinder will be reused. Gm dealers are to advised the customer to drive with the key only till parts are available.
