Hybrid PCM

I was just reading an older post asking what year Bonny would you get if you were to replace yours. One reply was that they wouldn`t get a 94 or 95 because they had Hybrid PCMs. Could someone explain to me what this means?

93 and prior were OBD 1, 96 and later are OBD 2. 94 and 95 were the awkward years inbetween.

This PCM was used with many 3800 Powered FWD applications for the 94-95 Model years and was used with 3 engines.... The 3800 Tuned Port Injection Vin L, the 3800 SuperCharged Vin 1, and added to this line in 95 was the 3800 Series 2 K engines...

They all used this PCM, and they are limited in performance options unless you have the chip for it custom burned...

This PCM was only used for the 94-95 model years... It was also a hybrid of sorts as in it was OBD1 compliant using the OBD1 Protocall, But it used the OBD2 codes and 16 Pin OBD2 connector...

This PCM can not be scanned with with an OBD2 scanner... The scanner has to be capeable of reading 94-95 GM cars using the OBD2 cable...
