Default How To Decide What Size Tire

Guys, if you remember, I said I was looking for new 16" rims. I found ugly ones so I looked else where and I found the perfect rim but it'* 17". That'* fine really but i don't want to mess up the speedometer, I know that if you make the rim bigger, you have to get a lower profile tire, my question is how low of a profile I should be looking for. My present tires on my 16ers are 225/60-16. I'm clueless on how to determine the tire size. I'll try to find a pic of the rim that I found.

Sorry if this is not in the right place, it'* general for me.

Miata Tire Size Calculator
Use the calculator to see what happens to your speedometer reading when you change the size of your tires and wheels. The graphic shows your stock tire selection in an outline overlaid on your new tire selection.

i got these in AUG. of 05 , bought them at COSTCO

(got my new tires today (BFG 255/50ZR17 G FORCE KDWS)
had 65k on the Michelin (235/55HR17) darn good tire , just wanted a wider tire and the BFG'* only set me back $132.00 a tire. the BFG'* have the same treadwear rating (400) as the Michelin'* so i hope to get about the same mileage. the car looks good with the wider tires, GM should have offered the 255'* as a option. did i say the car looks darn GOOD ! )
