Default How accurate is your mileage reading?

When I got my car, the readout for mileage was like right on for a tank or two. Now I've checked the last three tanks, and it'* been way off. The last one said 25.0 with 14.6 gallons used. But when I checked the actual, I put in 15.25 gallons for an average of like 23.7. Does anyone else have a large discrepancy like this? I just think it'* odd that the first couple tanks were right, but now it'* not. I'm thinking my computer is off, or my gas station is starting some shady stuff.

it depends on your driving....just cause you have the same miles on a tank dosent mean that you used the same amt of gas you did the time before

also weather also has a large factor in this....come winter time (colder months) there is a differnt blend of gas that is used

I think you misunderstood. What I'm saying is my actual calculation of mileage differs greatly from what the car'* computer is showing. On my last tank fillup, the computer said I used 14.6 gallons, but according to the pump it was 15.25. I've seen the same thiing the last three tanks. But the first couple of tanks when I got the car, the computer calculation was almost exactly the same as what I put in.

That'* bascially an average right? So it may be off due to big swings...

No, it'* not an average. When I refill, I reset it to zero, so it should be accurate. I had a Cougar several years ago that had the same readout, and it was always quite accurate. I can even understand if it'* not accurate, I just was curious why it was accurate for two tanks, but now it'* not.

But maybe the comment on gas blend has something to do with it. Maybe the change in gas messes up the computer? Who knows.

You know what? Mine does the same thing. Sometimes it'* right on, and others its not. Then when I look to see what my estimated miles per gallon is while I'm driving it'll say 75 miles to a gallon...now that'* so not right. I wonder if there is a way to correct it...

I know you aint kidding, Bill! We're wacked out & proud of it. It seems that I usually fill approximately one gallon more fuel in the tank than whats reported on the DIC for fuel usage. And this is consistent tank to tank.
