Baloney, i've used synthetic last year when it was 185,000 miles.
I have used 3 kinds of oil, Havoline, Mobil and Mobil 1... I cjange every 3000, or at least try to...

At 124,000 and getting near 143,000 this is what I see..

Neither one of them leak...

Let me add this, tyhe high milage oils have a bit more of an additive package to help older seals, it keeps them from leaking, or at least tries to... I can see where this would be good on a chevy 350, we all know what they do to valve stem seals...

3800'* don't have big problems in that area, but then again it couldn't hurt to use high milage oil
