heater hose fitting aka "the elbow"

recently i had my water pump and head gaskets replaced on my 97 bonnie- 3.8 (duh) no s/c. however i noticed a constant leak of a/f - using half a gallon daily pushed me to ask around- and noticed a drip coming from the heater hose fitting. yesterday, i bought one. tried to install it and noticed that the two pack had one that was a little too long and one thats a little too short.... i put the shorter one on and had antifreeze gush EVERYWHERE. the longer one doesnt quite fit at all. HOW DO I PUT THIS LITTLE PIECE OF PLASTIC ON MY MOTOR? its really becoming a huge headache now, seeing as how i cant drive my car at all. can anyone help me? am i missing a step? i have removed the alternator, the bracket to hold it and taken the belt off to add a few inches of space. in addition, i dug out the old h h f pieces from the holes and even tried using some heater core hose instead- still i have a leak..help please!!!

Take a close look, make sure the LIM lower intake manifold is not cracked. Also make sure the hole is clean. I put a little bit of red RTV on the O ring of the elbow to help it slid in and then seal.

What year is our car? We are assuming you are talking about a 95+ Series II NA motor here and what you said, kinda threw me off.

Personally I'm against RTV in this area. It makes things tougher to clean if you have to go back in later. A little oil or vasoline for lube works well.

BTW Pictures are a big help.

Here's the elbow we are talking about on an SC motor. Same location and elbow on your motor.
