Well, just got the news...the water pump was SHOT. So, I'll be getting a new one, coolant flush, t-stat and it passed inspection...all for $550! Ouch!

Sorry to hear that price. It really sounds too high to me. Can you break it down for us when you see the invoice?

Well, my Bonnie is back to running beautifully! A crapped out water pump can really make a car run like junk. Now the temp guage doesnt go above 200. AND, she passed inspection with flying colors! Emissions was awesome for a car with over 100,000 miles.
The bill only came to $400. Inspection, emissions, new water pump, new t-stat, coolant, rad hose and labor. That'* not bad.

Glad to hear that it was a success. Be glad that you didn't do the work yourself.
That price doesn't surprise me. Replacing the water pump on a supercharged Series 1 ('92/'93) takes about 5 hours to do (I think a dealer will quote roughly 6 hours of labor), and it'* a chore. Been there, done that...and don't want to have to do it again any time soon!

Okay, driving to work today my car starts making this unbelievably loud noise. I mean I heard it above my stereo, which is usually blaring. So, I popped the hood when I got to work, and it'* coming from the darn water pump, which I JUST had replaced last week!!! I was making this same noise before it was replaced, but now it'* 10 times louder! Guess I either got a defective one, or my mechanic is an idiot.

If you haven't already done so, listen with a garden hose or something similar to make sure where the noise is coming from. It may be a bad water pump, but maybe the noise is coming from the harmonic balancer or something else. The balancer on my '92 failed a few months ago; the rubber was cracked and separated from the pulley.

One of the guys I work with took one of those mechanic stethascopes and listened to a few things under the hood of my car. My alternator is a little noisy, but the main source of all the racket is the tensioner pulley that was supposably replaced with the water pump. The pump iteself is fine.
Now, what we also noticed....my horn was unplugged. We plugged it back in, and it doesn't work. It worked before I brought it in, and I know this because I am one of those people that honks at everyone...and the very morning that I dropped my car off someone cut me off, and I layed on my horn. But now mysteriously, my horn was unplugged and doesn't work at all. WHY???
Now I'm a little concerned....my camaro is due to go there tomorrow for inspection. Will something be broken on that too when I bring it home?
