Default Got me a auto-dimming mirror

I got a genuine Gentex auto-dimming/compass/Homelink mirror, installed it in my driveway around 3:00 tuesday morning. It'* very cool. I just had to share/gloat with you all.

I also got the plastic parts to hide the wires, but I'm not sure yet if I'll use it or not. Not sure what'* uglier, the thin wires or the big plastic thing to cover the wires.

How hard was it to install? I've been thinking about getting one of those too.

Go to the wrecker, get a mirror. 2-wire hookup. I did it with my 95 SLE not too long ago.

Maybe you're thinking of something different? I mean the two interconnecting parts that hide the wire along the windshield. Not required really. I think I like the look with it though.

It was quite easy really. Just a matter of tapping two fuses (in my case), one for constant power for the homelink function (so it can be used with the car off), one for ignition switched power for the compass and auto-dim functions (don't want power draining while the car is off), and also a ground. Routing the wires wasn't too bad, but it did require removing the a-pillar molding, visor, etc., and droping the headliner just a bit. The mirror itself mounts up just like any mirror. The wiring does vary by mirror. Some of the new ones actually have another wire yet, which gets conneted to the backup light circuit, so that the mirror un-dims when you go into reverse. Also some have map lights... It'* not all that hard to figure out though. Mine had a pre-made harness, so it was just a matter of routing and tapping fuses. If you yard for one, you'll have to figure out what needs to go where.

I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. And everyone else who reads it, for that matter.
