Default Good wheel bearing suggestions??

I have gone through more bearings than I want to recall. I have tried Timkens , different auto supply brands etc. I tried a pair of cheap $55.00 ones from Rock auto that were installed last October and failed this May with about 4.000 miles on them..Average price near me is $130.00. These front bearings for me either leak or dry out,get contaminated, or rust . rain , snow and slush is their enemy. I have taken one apart to see the mess inside. One was bad just after I bought the car with 36.000 miles on it. One parts store gave me a replacement when one died in less than a year. The rears are original with 120K on them. They are installed correctly, had the torc checked at a garage. My 88 *-15 4x4 went through one at 130K mi. Any ideas? Thanks

I can't say as I have had any issues with them on my *-10. When I bought it last summer, the previous owner had already replaced the passenger side hub with a Timken about 5 months prior. A couple months after I bought it, I replaced the drivers side with a Timkin and have had no issues since. I guess with these kind of hub bearings, locking down the spindle nut with the proper torque is crucial.

i think it has more to do with the car sitting. i dont have problems with mine and i just hit the nuts with the impact for a couple seconds. most of the cars i see with hub unit issues sit alot. the grease in there needs to circulate

Wow. Your car just eats bearings. Despite your experience, I still think Timken makes the best bearing.

You could have something else going on that is damaging the bearings and allowing them to leak or dry out, etc. Just food for thought..

From my experience and many others on the forum, Timken is a reliable brand.

Well I dont drive a lot anymore but I noticed this spring how everything was coroded from last falls work. This salt really tears up a car. It could be certain models too , seems everything on the road makes it up to the bearings and wheel sensors, you look at the back ones and their clean. But yes my *-15 never had an issue with bearings and I used the 4 wd a lot. I will go back to Timken again and drive more Thanks

FWIW Timken replaced my old bearing about 4000 miles ago and I've had no problems to date.

Are you having them aligned correctly? They could also have been put on too tight.

I have had them torqued to specs, so I don't know. I do know Alero has had a lot of issues including bearings and wheel sensors. Lots of complaints about breaks, rotors ,etc too.

why do u think the bearing is bad, is there play in the bearing? do you get the "traction active" on dry pavement? or the "service traction system" ? I was getting all those and I tracked it down to the harness wire that goes from the main wiring harness to the wheel sensor. It was the driver side.

road salt sould not be an issue with corrosion since most Manicipalities have swithced from sodium chloride to calcium chloride.
