As far as your '94 goes, if the engine is knocking, it needs replaced or rebuilt. IF the car was in excellent shape... paint shiny, interior clean, good tires, seats not ripped, etc... I would put it at about $500 needing a new engine. Less then that if it has anything like ripped seats, fading paint, peeling clearcoat, bald tires, bad dents etc...
