How hard (and how expensive) is it to replace the trannies in the old '87-'91 body style Bonnies? There'* '90 in the local paper for only $375, but they say it has a "bad tranny". Says good body and interior, though. What do you guys think? I am going to go look at it, but I'd like some initial thoughts on the matter... Thanks again, guys!

I agree with Bill for the most part...
Now as for the transmissions, its not so much hard as it is time consuming if you don't have all of the proper tools...
But being that its a 90, I'm sure you could find a good used trans for it.... Her is the messed up part, we all know these old THM440-T4'* ( 4T60'* ) usually fail due to overheating.... Even if you find a good used trans it may not last that long....
There is a slight possibility that you could find a 3800 car with a SRTA Hydramatic, or Goodwrench reman trans without many miles on it... we have found a couple of these and they were stronger than any old THM440-T4 I have ever driven, but remember when they are rebuilt by the factory they are updated internally to correct for problems that have been corrected over the years.... But finding one of these is few and far between... And finding a trans shop that can do a good rebuild on one is not so great as well...
I'd say if the car is close it may be worth a look....
What I'm wondering tho, is if the trans has failed totally or if maybe the 4th Gear is gone, no reverse..... Something of the sort...
If the car can't be driven at all I'd be weary of buying it at all...
Good Luck Kyle..

But If it was close to me and it was an SE for $375 I'd buy it and put a trans into it along with whatever it needed... Good to have junk yards with cheap parts...lol

I would take a look at it then go for it if it looked alright. My local wrecker has a crapload of transmissions for this car, and the LN3 3800 is known for lasting a hell of a long time. Besides, even if it turns out to be a total lemon I'm sure you could make a good majority of it back by parting out.
