This would be a learning moment for Pontiac. The G5 is horrendous. If this is what they are going to be giving us in the future, I'll eat my words about US Holden. I'd rather have Pontiac as US Holden than more Sun-Fleas (aka G5).
Thats the biggest thing thats hurting Pontiac the most. Platform sharing. With platform sharing you can either do it right (Solstice) or completely wrong (G5, Torrent, whatever that van thing was the last few years).
At least with Holden you're getting a somewhat unique piece.

I think it is lack of vision and too much worrying about competing with Japan. Pontiac has always participated in aggressive platform sharing. Look at the 91 Grand Am against a 91 Old Calais against a 91 Buick Skylark. Or even the 92-99 Bonnies against a LeSabre. In the past they were creative with their platform sharing. Now, they're trying to rip off the japanese. But I still do agree with your basic point.
i just read an article on yahoo news about the new ponitac firebird
however it looks just like the new camaro but with the bird on the hood....
idk if this is welcom to last yr deal but if its true it would be great.... i would rather own a firebird of a camaro.;...

Idk. I think the commodore is a badass car. Good news is pontiac will be designing all new interior and sheetmetal, not just the nose. Car will have rwd and a 6 liter v8
.
Bad news: Chezy and buick and every other swinging dick will probably poke their noses into the zeta platform: platform sharing. Chevy will have a boring version and buick will have an old-people version. Also, the commodore is not a new car its out already, and we wont get our hands on our version of it till 2010??!! Thats BS for 2 reasons: 1 the competition can just get a commodore and make something better by 2010. 2. it will be a dated design by then, I understand that the process takes time but DAMN, the ausies the frame, drive-train, ect done for you GM!! All you have to do is make sheet metal and an interior and your done! In 3 years the zeta platform will be nothing new and the japs will have something better.

Holden has it right by keeping most of their products
1) RWD

2) performance minded.
