Default GM/Dex-Cool Class Action Update #3

For those of you still interested, there is now progress on this front.

Whether or not you believe Dexcool is the devil, it appears that a settlement may happen now. Here'* the info as of today:

Quote:
We are pleased to inform you that we have reached a tentative nationwide settlement with General Motors.

You will have the option to be included in the settlement if you incurred out-of-pocket expenses for any of the following repairs:

1. A replacement of the nylon/silicone lower intake manifold gasket, made within 7 years or 150,000 miles of the date of initial delivery for 1995-2003.5 Model Year vehicles with 3.1-liter V6 and 3.4-liter V6 engines, where the vehicle was originally equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.

2. A coolant sealability repair (including, but not limited to, throttle body gasket, upper intake manifold gasket, lower intake manifold gasket, etc.), made within 7 years or 150,000 miles of the date of initial delivery for 1995 - 2004 model year 3.8-liter V6 engines (RPO L36), where the vehicle was originally equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.

3. A Dex-Cool sludge repair, made within 7 years or 150,000 miles for 1995 - 2000 model year */T light trucks and sport utility vehicles with 4.3-liter V6 engines and originally equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.

The settlement will require you to provide proof that you owned or leased the vehicle at the time of the repair and that you paid for one of the repairs described above. If you do not have a receipt, ask the auto repair shop that did the work to provide you with one.

The terms of the proposed settlement are confidential while we work to finalize the settlement papers for court approval. If the court preliminarily approves the settlement, the parties will publish, mail, and email a notice that describes the terms of the settlement and your legal rights. We hope to obtain court approval and get the notice out by February. At that time, we will be able to answer inquiries regarding the specifics of the settlement and how to file a claim. In the meantime, you should retain all receipts you have for repairs to your vehicle'* cooling system. Also, if your mailing address, or your email address changes, please notify us by email.

Those that have paid premium prices for this repair and have their receipts, could potentially recover some $$, from the sound of it.

Yeah the first time I went through the whole UIM thing was back in 2002. I think I had 89, or 98,000 on bufford. I paid $672.00 to have it repaired. and YES, I do have my reciept. I dont throw those away. I'm hoping to recover some money for sure.

I'm not real upset about the issue. I'm disappointed like most other GM lovers out there.

I wonder why they cut off the 3.1 and 3.4 at 2003.5. My wife'* 04 Grand Am has started sippng coolant recently, and I suspect the LIM gaskets.

That'* a good question. Notice that they cut the Bonneville off at 1999. It may have something to do with settiing limits on the claim, as legally, they may have had to show reasonable reason to claim certain years, models etc.

Many times, these problems don't show up right away.

Lol!

Yeah, sorry, obviously, you'se guys wit yur stupercharged cars just abused yours too much, therefore the failure...

On the other hand, remember that these are lawyers putting these suits together. Even with "expert" automotive consultants, they are bound to get some things wrong. Thus, the year and engine type discrepancies. That'* my take on it.

Well, this is cool in that it seems to give some credibility to the claims of members here that Dex Cool has caused problems in these engines. However, a bit of caution....don't expect to recoupe your cost of repairs as a result of this. I have been involved in several class action law suits and it would not surprise me if all you got was some coupons for more anti-freeze or some other product. If there is a monetary settlement I'll take bets nobody will get more than $50.00. I don't want to rain on anybody'* parade....I just don't want people to get their hopes to high. Usually the only people coming out well financially in class action law suits are the lawyers. I hope I am wrong in this case and that everyone will get a bunch back.
