Spring will be here shortly, which means it is time to spend some money.

I am looking to get some new tires for the chrome rims, then I won't have to get the tires switched from the ghettos to the chromes and vice versa every spring/fall. The new tires will be for only summer time, and I am looking for something a bit on the sportier side. Little more rubber on the road, but I don't want to hydroplane going 30 MPH either. Any suggestions for brand and model of tires? What do you guys all have for the summer?

Second is I want to get a magnaflow muffler and some SS tips. I am thinking about going with a Y-pipe design just for looks. I am most interested in sound though. I know one of my local muffler shops is a magnaflow dealer, so I know where I can buy all the stuff. The main question is how much money will I be spending to get the setup I want? Estimated of course.

I like Bridgestone Potenzas. I have the g009'* but there are a lot of different variations of the Potenza. There are a lot of nice tires out there to choose from. My tires were not that expensive either. But the dry and wet traction is great, and the aggressive directional tread design looks pretty good.

As far as exhaust, the mufflers themselves are not too bad. I was quoted about $800CDN (this is for my Cutlass) for a full new exhaust, including a hi-flow CAT, one Magnaflow muffler, all new pipe, etc... so roughly $600 USD.

Toyo Proxes TPT. They've performed well for me. Directional tread, too. Great grip, especially if siped.

I thought siping was only for winter tires. Apparently not....so do you suggest doing that for summer only tires? It doesn't decrease life or anything of that nature?

I have had my tires Siped on most of the vehicles I have owned since its came out and Ive had no unnormal tread wear or accelerated tread wear from it. Id suggest it just out of habit and its worked so far.

Dumb question...what does "sip" mean?

Siping allows the tire to cool more quickly. It'* perfectly suited for hot summer driving. It'll actually extend the tire life, and provide better traction.

The only exception would be extended driving on a gravel road. Not good with siping.

What do the shops physically do to the tire to give it the siped effect?

Google 'tire siping'.

I like Bridgestones and Falkens personally. I would suggest getting the exhaust pieces from the net, to save a little money.
