Only label I can find on that thing is this. Does it do me any good?

Not the original trans... x3. That'* why I want to know what gear ratio it is. It seems to be a little more sluggish than previous two transmissions.

x3? that is worse than stock 2004r expectations.

does the n/a 3800 have the 4T60? i was hoping the transmission in the ssei would be somewhat stout.

The "7ASW" on your tranny tag denotes 1997 C/H-Body 4T60E with 2.86 gears and 1420 stall torque converter:

FQ3 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 2.86
FR2 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 2.93
FW2 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 3.06
F17 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 2.84
F79 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 2.97
F83 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 3.05
GX3 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 3.33
Which of these RPO'* is on your spare tire cover? It'll tell you which you should have, if you think it may be messed up.

i understand and was shocked. hence why i compared it to the 2004r. i guess [never looked into it] that the 4T60 is just a transverse mount 4L60. so basically a 700r4 in transverse trim.

shocked he'd go through 3. that is like 2004r, 42/44re territory.

Chris I know what you mean...

The 4T60-E is sort of hard to compare to a 4L60-E...

The 3T40( THM125 ) got a lot of its inners from the Turbo 350 way back when... The 3T40-E is a H*** bent little Transverse trans... Later thaey took a lot of what they learned and developed the THM440-T4, Basicly a larger 3T40 with an added gear... The 440-T4 then was renamed the 4T60, then later the 4T60-E.... The 60-e Is good for moving 6000 Lbs totall weight including the car....


putertopia, My guess is that you have FW2 in the RPO list.... But that trans is 100% 2.86..

Another thing I have to ask, with all of the trans failures did anyone ever flush out the trans cooler in the radiator to make sure that it wasn't plugged up in any manner to cause more failures?
