Default gas smell inside

I replaced the sending unit on my 2001 yesterday and apparently I didn't relieve enough pressure from the fuel system or something because when I disconnected the fuel lines from the fuel pump, gas sprayed EVERYWHERE intensely. The back of the trunk, and side carpet got soaked from the gas spraying everywhere. Now I'm left with an interior that wreaks of gas. What will get rid of the smell? I've already tried shampooing the car and it still smells. Hell, I still smell like gas after taking two showers. Any magic products out there to get rid of a gas smell inside? Even leaving the windows open over night, and the trunk, I get a buzz when i get in the car.

I'd buy 4-6 of those odor absorbers, and put them in the car, that should help.

May want to steam clean the carpet, and use P.O.G. on it (if you have it done, ask for it - they should know what it is). It has a nice odor neutralizer, as well as breaking up any oil-based compounds that might still be in the carpet.

P.O.G. stands for Paint Oil Gum. It'* a nice cleaner that completely removes all that, and it has a nice smell to it.

This may be a simple cheap way to get rid of the smell...Febreze Auto, it may work for you in quantity. I say the auto version because it'* stronger than the housing febreze...it'* worth a shot . Good luck

Usually you need to pull the Fuel pump Fuse then run the car until it stalls. That will relieve the pressure in the lines and avoid Fuel spillage.

I experienced this spillage on the 94, but everything is done under the car.

It will take a while and a few cleainings for the smell to dissipate in the car.

There'* a neat trick to get rid of the gas smell on your hands.

If you have a stainless steel sink, wet your hands and arms and rub them all over the stainless for a minute or two. Guarantee your hands won't stink like gas anymore
Also works for garlic and onion smells...
