Gas, Oil And Gas Mileage **** SERIES II ENGINES****

I live in a large city, and all my driving is in the city. Average speed varies from 50km/h-80km/h. I am lucky to get 17mpg, and that is in the summer. It sucks. :(

Very informative information from all of you, and Singscountry you probably know the scenario best since you live nearby. Most my driving is in the suburbs of Buffalo and on the 33. I don't have a DIC in my car to tell me gas mileage, I was just trying to calculate it myself by the gauge. I forgot about idleing while I'm scraping the avalanche of snow off my car 
I didn't know the gas stations put additives in the gas in the winter. I definatly don't pass many people and don't jackrabbbit, I'm usually the one getting passed by annoyingly large SUV'* who think they own the road and want to get to 30mph in 2 seconds just to stop at the next red light 50 feet ahead. 
I have new wires, plugs, and one new coil, so maybe I'll try fuel injector cleaner and a new air filter. I read one of the oil posts shortly after posting my question and I'm deffinatly going back to Mobile 1 on the next change. The dealership changed the oil before I bought the car so of course it got regular oil to save them money.
Does having the heater on constantly decrease gas mileage?

No comparison was made to this persons MPG with my new gearing. I'm working off all knowledge, not only the current state of my vehicle. Similarly I assume WillWren is doing the same since the post is regarding Series II only. .

I think Pat even pulled a 30-31 on his way down here.. I think even he has seen 32.. They All have the ability to do 30+ on the open road with stock gearing

I have not a clue what my mileage was straight highway because I started driving the city after a highway trip but I know it was decent. Anybody know though if having the heater on will decrease gas mileage?
