well as long as the tank is not empty then there is no worry the fumes is what you are concerned with not the gas its self

the fuel filter was way up by the tank, not easy to reach. the hardest part of disconnecting the fuel rail was getting the hood open (that'* where the damage was). i had her crank the key (coils disconnected just to avoid the whole spark thing together) for like 2 secs, and then it'd squirt out about 1/3 gallon of gas. when it stopped, she'd crank again. and we did that over and over for a full tank. it really wasn't THAT bad; definitely better than letting all that gas go to waste
