These damn racoons. No sense. They have to hang around to eat cat food instead of fishing out of the river behind my house. I got the big one back in July.....after the Rottweiller took it's right rear quarter panel out, and the Boxer took it's tail......nailed him between the eyes with a .22

The big thing here is that my male Boxer is getting old, and a coon can do some serious damage. Then to make it worse, the stupid 'coon tree' is a 100 year old western red cedar right in front of my porch. AND the kids have cats. Coons and cats don't mix.

So this big coon last July beat me to the punch by breeding. Twins. Not 15 minutes ago, I walked out on the front porch and saw one eating cat food. Ran back inside, grabbed the flashlight and crossbow, ran back outside, and NAILED THAT BASTARD!

Got him climbing the tree. He landed a good 15' from the base of the tree. He made it another 5' before he croaked. You guys wanna see the bloody crossbow bolt? (crossbow arrows are called bolts for you uneducated pukes). This bolt landed about 2' from where he did. Went right through. The neighbors (Jseabert and company) made me promise to show them the kill, so I'll let Josh post on the kill when he sees it in the morning!

great shot the the crossbow will. do you shoot a compound too? i used to shoot semi pro 3D on the IBO circuit a few years ago. but i used a mathews rival pro with a 6x lens and a mirco adjustable toxonics naildriver sight. i have 4 robinhoods to my name . one was at 42 yards in the 10 ring. :D

Funny you should ask....I actually took my red dot scope off my target rifle and put it on the crossbow for this purpose.....but didn't have time to turn it on. Had to go fast. I aimed by feel completely.

I used to be pretty good with a bow.....even made my own out of an old ski when I was a kid. Used to shoot all the time, but never compound. Because of where I live, in the city limits, but on the edge of town, we get lots of critters, and usually the sick ones. The sick or confused critters tend to hang out where the food is the easiest to come by, and with dogs, cats, and kids, you have to be prepared to deal with it. The dogs take care of the possums and nutria, the crossbow takes care of the rest. I won't kill a Beaver. The last one I caught, I took down to the river and released it.

Raccoons are territorial. If you don't move them 50 miles, they'll come right back. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with badgers, or even bobcats. Bobcats were a big problem in Northern CA.

Autopsy this morning will show how good my blind aiming was. Can't have my Nephew in Iraq getting all the action can we?

you can shot indoors too, they have systems like technohunt and the dart system that you actually shoot your bow and arrows at a screen but you have to use their ends. it is way cool and you can hunt anywhere you want to and what ever animal you want to. the technohunt even tells you the speed of your arrow . i had 2 bows that i shot in competion, the one was a mathews rival pro and the other was a hoyt powertec. i had the power tec shooting at 315 feet/sec and still withint the IBO 5 grains/lb of pulling weight. if i was on, i could put 5 out of 5 arrows in a 3" circle at 50 yards with them. but it takes alot of practice. i even had a target panic trainer to practice in the house at night. and most of all, i only used back tension releases. no triggers at all. just aim and pull steady. just concentrate on aiming and the arrow will release by itself. takes awhile to get used to but well worth it. after tasting blood a few times when it went off drawing the bow :lol:

YESSS! A kill everyone can appreciate! Up until about two years ago the racoons here were horrendous. You couldnt drive a mile down the road without hitting one(no kidding, I smacked two of them within a half mile of my house!). Well the neighbor got so fed up with those varmints in his fields he went and put a bunch of cyanide :twisted: out for them. When he went and checked in the morning he counted 43 dead racoons and one dead skunk! After that the racoon population has gone down considerably. :2guns:
