estimate paint cost
How much do you guys think it might cost me to get my hood repainted? The paint is defective and I've never seen a car whose paint pealed like this. It is wierd. I've gotten quotes of anywhere from $100 from a guy who is a mechanic but also paints cars himself, all the way up to $300 from a body shop.) for just the hood.. also, a picture of the damage from when I rear ended that van at 10 MPH. is that easily repairable or will a new bumper have to be purchased?

It really depends on how bad the painter wants to stick it to you. I do autobody work and paint in my spare time. The most important thing I've learned is paint does not cost a whole lot. The majority is labor. There are plenty of things that factor in to how much you want to spend. Another good thing to check out is........ go to a college in your area that has an autobody program. I know one in springfield will charge you for materials and that'* it. The instructors make sure it'* done right. GOOD LUCK!

thanks for the advice. Do you have any idea why my paint is just flaking off like that? The car is only 7 years old. It shouldnt' be doing that. The paint is well taken care for as you can see in the pictures, it has great shine, the paint'* just falling off. :?
The trunk even has oxidation already.. does it just look like a shitty factory paint job that was defective or something? I wish it happened one year ago when it was still under warrenty, the factory warrenty was 6 years/100,000 mile rust protection.

that hood shoud cost no more than $150 to be repainted. I know this because i work in a body shop and it would take no more than 1hour to do. It is the materials that causes the price to go up. due to the fact that the shop will have to buy such a small amount of paint, and paint is cheaper by the gallon.
The bumper is also a cake job to fix, just a little sanding and a little putty and you are good as new. hope this helps!

thanks for the advice, I plan on getting it fixed during my spring break in April since it'* going to be warmer out. After a re-paint do you recommend not to wax for a certain amount of time or wash the car? Isn't it around like 2 months you can't wax the car? thanks!

I've actually seen lots of GM Products have paint peel like that. My LeSabre did the same thing. Unfortunately, I don't remember what year it was.

According to GM records (thanks Deathrat!) My hood was repainted (before I purchased it). GM has always had a history of paint problems although they are a lot better now.
