This is an article from the Detroit FreePress from this Tuesday about the poor sales of the Pontiac G6 (the Oprah factor). Lots of excitment at rollout and poor sales ever after. The outgoing Grand AM sold around 16,000+ per month since it was introduced. This Feb., the G6 only sold around 7,000+ and that'* with incentives.
No more Bonnevilles and poor sales of the G6. These aren't good signs. At least the average Pontiac buyer is younger than Buick owners. That might save Pontiac...

I wasn't suggesting that the cars I mentioned should be offered that way standard, but Pontiac kinda needs some more balls right now.
The G6 is selling poorly because Pontiac made the mistake of bringing it out with the optioned engine still a year off. You don't want to make people wait that long for the up-scale motor, especially in a car-class that has little beasts like the SRT-4, and the WRX.

It'* no wonder they loose money. I've always wondered why the big US car manufacturers don't offer longer warranties. That and the cheap price gets people to switch, IMO.

A front page article from this morning'* Detroit News. Lutz'* comments were taken out of context according to top GM officials. No decision has been made or contemplated about axing a brand from the GM lineup. A great chart shows the sales records from 1984 between Buick and Pontiac with Pontiac sales greater than Buick.
Still the article mentions the poor sale of the G6 after six months in the marketplace with heavy ($3500) incentives

death of pontiac
when i first heard of olds being killed i was kinda said even though im not relly an olds fan i couldn't believe gm decided to kill off olds. i understand they weren't the best in sales but to kill them off? Gm should have just brought in new products possible bring back a car such as a new 442. But now killing of Pontiac? This was a dumb move on gm'* part Pontiac was just starting to introduce a new line up of cars such as the GTO, g6, Solistic, torrent, and in a few years the g4 and g8. I guess gm could care less about a company thats been around for years and was responsible for starting the muscle car era forty one years ago when Pontiac put a 389 ci motor in a Tempest creating the first muscle car also know as the GTO.
