Electrical Demons??
Has anyone else had this happen to them or have heard of this before? I have a 93 SSEI, I park it at a Park and Ride lot, on 5 occasions I have retuned to find my trunk popped open but nothing stolen. The first couple of times I thought maybe some thieves were using some sort of scanner to defeat car alarms, but when I checked my open trunk, my $3,500.00 set of Racing Radios and other assorted pit gear was still there.
Recently while parked in front of my house, the factory car alarm has been going off several times a night, even when the alarm is not set. I am starting to wonder if the two problems are related, and possibly caused by electrical demons..

Damn that'* is freaky
I'd think thieves would take your stuff. Do you have a remote key fob with a key button? If so maybe the trunk release gets accidentally pressed when in your pocket.
No, that can't be it.
With all that radio equipment why aren't you setting the alarm all the time
But seriously, I don't know how your trunk can pop open without someone actually opening it. :?

Funny you mention that. I went out to get in my car this afternoon and my truck was open. This is the 2nd time in the month I owned this car that it happend
Ive had the same thing happen to me many times.... Not getting my 15'* stolen out of my trunk luckly but come out in the morning and seeing my trunk open is scary. I dont carry my keys in my pocket with all my other stuff now and it hasnt done it for weeks... Maybe you have a problem with full pockets ?? :?

I usually hang my keys on a hook in my kitchen. I have a thing on my key ring that hooks them to my pants so my keys are never in my pockets. This is as bad as a set of remote fog lamps I used to have in my van. I would go out and find my battery dead many mornings and these things would be on when I know I turned them off. I used to think that someone with a CB could turn them on, I couldn't explain it. They even came on by themselves one day my remote was dead with no battery in it. My trunk is starting on the same pattern
Well I’m glad to know that I am not the only one having this happen, but I still haven’t heard a reasonable cause/solution. I must admit that I thought that it could be that the Trunk button was being pushed somehow in my pocket, but then I started carrying them in my backpack and it still happens occasionally.
This does not happen frequently, and I never find the doors unlocked (kind of rules out the remote). A few months back my wife met me at the park & ride and when she got there before me she noticed that the trunk was ajar.
When the car alarm started going off for no apparent reason I started to wonder if the two were related. As far as how do I know if the alarm was set, I can only tell you that as I understand it, the Factory Alarm is armed when the doors are locked prior to closing the last door. The Alarm is not armed if the doors are all closed and then the key is used to lock the doors. One night about two weeks ago the alarm went off 6 times within 2 hrs. I finally left it unlocked knowing that that might be a thief’* plan (hey it’* insured, & I took everything of value out of it).
Thanks for all the input, lets see if someone out there has found a cause...
